This is not software! You do not need any kind of computer! You have used our Practice Assistant program to help with Kreutzer and other books of etudes and technical studies. You know how incredibly helpful it is to play along with a "correct" performance, at a slow tempo. But not everyone has access to a Windows PC when and where you want to practice. Or the sound you get from your PC's synthesizer is too electronic. Or the synthesizer's violin has a really deep vibrato, making it difficult to use as a pitch reference. Or perhaps you just can't get enough volume from your PC speakers. Well, we can now help you out, too! We have produced an audio recording of the complete 42 Etudes for Violin. It is available as a four CD set, or you can buy each individual CD as you need it. The Table of Contents shows which Etudes are on each CD, along with the tempos. Notice that most of the Etudes are recorded at two different tempos. The purpose of these recordings is to provide you with the "correct" notes, at a tempo with which you can actually play along. You are (I hope) used to using a metronome to help with rhythmic discipline. With Slow Kreutzer you get the rhythm and the pitch. These recordings were made using a sampled violin on a high quality synthesizer (Kurzweil K2000S). There is no vibrato. All notes are held full length. And the tracks are "hot"! You will have no difficulty hearing the recording while you practice. Here is a short sample of Etude 3 in an MP3 file (472 KB). This is the slowest recording (40 beats per minute). A Note about Intonation: These recordings were made using "Equal Tempered" tuning. This means it will be in tune with a properly tuned piano. You may have seen our ad in Strings magazine, where we mentioned "Just Intonation". That level of refinement turned out to be too ambitious for the first release. "Just" Kreutzer is still in the works, but don't wait! We want to get your feedback. Buy Slow Kreutzer now and let us know what you think. You can purchase the CD's individually, for $25 each. Or get the complete set of four CD's for just $75. Buy 3, get one Free! Please use this form to order Slow Kreutzer. This form will be submitted (and retrieved) using a secure protocol.
